Blast Fake News with the Browser Bar, Not Censorship

Since the election of President Trump last year I have been looking for a way to say what I wanted to say about the problem of censorship, when it comes to the concept of fake news.  This article by Foster Kamer states everything of what I have been trying to articulate and more.  In short, battle fake news with the web browser rather than with censorship.

I have been concerned that all the concern over fake news was leading information leaders, like librarians, was leading them to blacklist alternative views, when the answer is bookmarking highly respected sites and including some of them in your RSS feed reader would go a long way to defeating fake news without breeding a form of censorship.

I am not even saying that we should ignore stories in our newsfeeds, rather when we read a story that is inflammatory, check it out with a number of other of reputable sites.  Also make sure that your sources are not simply repeating one another's stories, but make sure that each is doing their own reporting.  If the story proves to be valid, then share it from a source that does not use an inflammatory headline.

Be the person that checks their facts rather than being the person to put forward fake news.
