As a Christian, How do we know that we are not deceiving ourselves

This is my response to a question on the Naked Bible group.

Since this is a "bible" oriented group, I will start with the bible passage that came to mind.

22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.:" James 1:22-25 NIV.

So, as far as my personal faith in Christ as my Savior; I was introduced to the story of Christ as a child.  I came to hear and believe the gospel:

15 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.
8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.
9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
11 Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed. 1 Corinthians 15:1-11 KJV.
Having believed in this, I continue to search the bible to understand it, memorize it, and seek do it.
In short, my faith is based on some presuppositions.

1.  The world we live in was created by someone.
2.  That Creator loves his creation.
3.  Jesus the Christ came into the world, lived a sinless live, died for my sins, and rose again according to the scripture.
4.  That a record of this has been preserved in the bible and in history as the canon of scripture.

Since I believe this I seek to obey what I read in the bible, not deceiving myself.
